Clare From Pole4Fitness
Lisa Warrington would like
Clare Bennet from pole 4 fitness in hull
what Lisa says about Clare:
I started having lessons with Clare in
august
2004 I had a baby the year before and really needed to get back in to
shape.
I
was self conscious about my body as I had put weight on but Clare
made
me
feel instantly at ease. After nearly two years of lessons with
her I
have
lost weight and gained a lot more confidence. Her energy and
love for
pole
dancing comes through in every lesson, and starts to rub off on you
as
well. I am proud to say Clare is my instructor and glad I can also call her
my
friend.
What Clare says : I started pole dancing about 3 years ago just for
fun
at a
local pub. I quickly got addicted and got a pole for my birthday.
After a
lot of practice I started teaching at the gym I own with my husband
mark. I
started off with two poles but the demand for lessons was more then
I
expected and I quickly had to get another 2 poles to meet the
demands
for lessons. because the demand was so great I opened a purposes
built 10
pole
dance studio called pole 4 fitness. I have two other
instructors and
between us we teach about 30 lessons a week. I also have two
poles on
stages which I take to local pubs where my instructors, students and
myself
perform. I feel so proud when I see our students perform and
see how
confident they have become. I have a DVD coming out for
beginners and
I am
hoping to franchise pole 4 fitness out around the UK. I am so
glad to
be a
part of a group of people who encourage and support people so much
and
all
want the same thing for pole dancing.

Jamie From Poise Dance
Jamie was nominated by Jennifer Grier.
Jennifer said "Her
teaching is extraordinary and we love her"
I own Poise Dance Studio in Philadelphia, Pa.. It's a brand new pole
dance studio, and
the only one in Phila. that teaches pole dancing while also serving
as
a Girls' Club. We
have pole parties for students to bring their friends in, as boys
are
not allowed during
regular classes, as well as field trips, seminars, recitals, and
other
fun stuff!
We try to incorporate as many styles of dance as we can to our
dancing.
It's fun to see
how Salsa, Ballet, Hip Hop (it's amazing what you can do with your
booty muscles! ha-ha)
and all other forms of dance easily adapt to the pole.
I went to Penn State for Theatre/Dance. I have always been a dancer/
instructor,
specializing in Jazz and Partner dancing, until I discovered the
pole.
Pole dancing is
the most fun I've ever had working out, and I love seeing the girls
become good at it, and
sharing my love for it. Every girl who comes to class has a talent
to
give back to the
studio and the other girls, so we're constantly learning something
new.
My girls are so
down to earth and fabulous, I really feel lucky to have such a
rewarding job! And, of
course, I must pay my respects to the Queen, Miss KT Coates, whom we
at
Poise all hail!

Tuition
Would you like to put your pole instructor in the spotlight for
their great teaching skills, their motivational classes or just
because you appreciate them? Then email us with a photo and we will
post your comments. The spotlight will be changed each month.
Denise Chaplin:
I have nominated my instructor Donna because she really encourages
me and gives me great tips I can do at home a bit like homework, she
as a strong but very friendly personality that puts me at ease, she
is very good and skilled and shows you easy ways to break down the
moves to make it better for the pupils to understand, she also makes
everyone of all ages welcome and part of the group.

Hi there all my name
is Donna Treadgold and I have been pole dancing
for fitness now for 5 years 2 years of which I
have been instructing .
When we first
started instructing the hardest thing I found
was getting people to take us seriously and
getting the seedy image that people had in their
heads to change, but now I can say I think we
have passed the thick of it and we are now
teaching between 100 to 150 girls a week and I
personally think it is brilliant to have changed
so many people's opinion's about it.
I am a mother of two
beautiful girls who think I am the coolest mum
in town (I suppose that because when I take them
the park I hang upside down from the monkey bars
and the other mum's look at me gone out ha-ha!!!!!)
I was the winner of
the Vertical Dance video competition and was in
the Miss Pole Dance UK finals this year where I
placed 5th which both I am extremely proud of as
I suffer with terrible stage fright and had to
go through 5 sessions of hypnotherapy just to
get me there .
I also took part in
the Guinness world record which great fun and
has done pole dancing proud.
we have also just
produced our own calendar for a local charity
which is going fantastic so if any one is
interested please visit our site where you can
purchase them .
anyway I love my job
and the people I have gotten to meet through it
I have never been happier with my life as a
whole and I still have so much more to learn.
I would just like to
thank Denise for nominating me and all my girls
for all their support they have given me through
out my pole dancing career so far.
Take care all and
keep Pole Dancing

Sonia From Pole Stars
This month we would like to introduce Sonia of Pole Stars. She has been nominated by a number of people including Hayley Foster who said the following:
|
I have recently
completed the beginners course with the
polestars instructor, Sonia. I'd just like to
comment on how well she taught the class.
Sonia is an
excellent instructor, and her way of teaching
was both interesting and informative. It has
made me excited about the next course.
In addition I
had a tuition session with Sonia and that also
was great fun. She has made me want to be a pole
dancing instructor! I can't wait until round 2.
Work for: Polestars Where: Reading (at the Purple Turtle)
Day Job:
Compliance consultant I started taking lessons in July 2005 and was so quickly hooked that I ordered my pole about 3 weeks later. Armed with my own pole, I started to practise regularly with a friend I met on the course (Kat – now one of my closest friends). When I finished one course, I booked the next one straight away and so on. After that, we both investigated the internet, forums, DVD’s and took online lessons with Vertical Dance – we were so hungry to learn more and keep on learning and there’s always a new challenge on the pole.
I say I dance
for keep fit but I still don’t like exercise as such (you’re
unlikely to ever catch me in a gym), I just love it that Pole
dancing has made me so much fitter as a by-product of doing
something I enjoyed. I noticed fairly quickly that I’d toned up and
started to develop muscle tone. My confidence has improved
dramatically and I’ve learnt to appreciate my body a lot more. I
feel a lot less self-conscious about my lack of curves etc. I have a
very athletic physique now and I’m proud of it (my osteopath has
been pretty impressed with my improvement too, I’ve always had back
problems but not anymore). It seemed like a fairly natural progression to teach, I had Kat encouraging me as she felt I’d be a great teacher and I wanted to do something with the skills I’d learnt, not to mention, pole dance as often as possible. I applied to Polestars and started training, the rest is history. Teaching gives me a huge buzz, even if I have a bad day in the office, I have a smile on my face when the class starts. Students want to learn for different reasons and I think it’s important to be sensitive to that. I think this is especially important with the linking moves and dancing as that’s the bit that most students find the hardest. I try to give as many options as possible so that everyone can find their comfort level with all the moves I teach. I think my students are actually quite encouraged by the fact that I’ve not danced for long as it gives credibility to the fact the moves are all achievable.
I love
teaching; it’s great to teach normal women a skill that has fitness
benefits, improves their self confidence and have so much fun at the
same time! I’ve only been teaching for 5 months and I hope I still
enjoy it so much in 5 years time. |
