|
|
Hi,
I'm new to the pole dancing community and haven't actually purchased my pole yet. I've been looking around and after reading here I think my best bet would be to get a Platinum Stages or X-Pole. I was hoping I'd be able to buy a used one simply because I'm not sure how long my interest will last haha... I finally found one but the woman selling it has no pictures or anything so I think I'll have to take a trip and see it in person. Apparently it's this pole http://www.platinumstages.com/New-Extreme-One-Piece-Super-Pole_p_76.html but what she's written in the e-mail doesn't quite match the specifications on the site so I was hoping someone could help me...
These are her emails to me: "It is a removable pole,2 inch diameter, chrome plate steel. It supports up to 250 lbs,so very safe and stable for inversions.I bought it from a company called 'Platinum Stages' in the states.I don't have any pics of it,unfortunately, but if you want to see a similar model you can check out their website.I love it,but moved from a house into an apt and the ceilings are not high enough here for me to use it,otherwise I'd keep it!"
"It's the once piece super pole,it is pressure mounted and yes it has the option to spin(very fun stuff, lol) IT requires a min 7ft ceiling,(84 inches),so I think you're good."
and "I've never used it at the max height, but I believe it's 11 ft." However on the website it seems that the height can only differ by a few inches. I thought perhaps there was an older model or something she's confused with (or I'm confused!) and was hoping someone could clear this up. Thanks |

a one peice pole is just that, one peice and like you say can only be ajusted by 6inces, if she had the pole the woman would know this, she is mixing two compley different pole discriptiond together. i would stear clear. _________________ Its funny, coz the harder i work, the luckier i become. strange that! |

Thanks... I figured that but I was so excited about finding a potential one that I was hoping maybe there was an explanation. Could anybody tell me if this pole seem ok? http://www.sensuallyactive.com/online_store/dance-pole.htm
Also what exactly is the difference between it being a multi-piece compared to a one-piece, other than the obvious? Thanks |

At the top it says "polished steel" and lower down it says "chromed steel" which are NOT the same thing.
Everything about that looks like a FAKE X-Pole. The wording is EXACTLY the same as the X-Pole advert, the pictures are laid out the same. But they compare it against the X-Pole in price.
http://www.xpoleus.com/features.php
The only thing which is bugging me is that the website is seemingly legit - they should know better.
I'm going FAKE.
DO NOT BUY.
(Have a look at the Fake X-Poles thread for why) _________________

The star pole looks like a FAKE too. The reason why the fakes are so bad is because they are just awful poles that don't fit together, the dome breaks and a whole host of other issues. I had a student buy one awhile back and they were lucky enough to get their money back but others haven't been so fortunate.
I haven't made my own pole but we have markstar poles in our studio and for the most part they are great but you need to constanly check the screws in the flanges to be sure they are in and tight. It's a cheaper way to go but they are not removeable - so if poling isn't for you then you'd be stuck with it.
How about taking some lessons to see if you like it?
Also - where are you from you may have other options. _________________

| Ah ok I see... It doesn't really matter about the removable or not since it's going in my basement where there's a lot of room and it's unfinished so there's not problems with holes in the ceiling or not (luckily!). There's not really any pole dancing studios around where I live, closest is probably about 45 mins away and I just don't have the time during the week. By the time I get home and leave again the class would be started, unfortunately. I live in Ontario, Canada which is why I seem to be having an awful time haha |

| Finally I've found a manufacturer in Canada but I have the option between brass and stainless steel? Can anyone tell me which is more expensive and the pros/cons of each? If I'm just a beginner does it really matter, since either way it will be chrome coated? Thanks |

Poles are EITHER Chrome, Stainless Steel, or Brass (or powder coat). They can't be more than one. Steel Poles are usually coated in chrome, but stainless steel is shiny already. Maybe I'm completely misunderstanding though.
I'd be wary of a pole company that doesn't have its facts straight.
What company is it? _________________

Oh dear... It's a company from Ottawa that is fairly new but has done some work for the dance studios around it. He told me I could choose between brass or stainless steel, but either way it's chrome dipped. I don't understand how a pole could be ONLY chrome as it's not pure chrome, it's something dipped in chrome, right?
"by brass we do not mean the gold colored pole .....this pole is a brass polished ..with mirror finish ...so it looks like stainless steel same color and everything just way better quality ...however if you want stainless steel we can do that also."
Can I just buy a some really nice stainless steel quality pipe and make one? As long as it's highly polished? My dad works at a fabrication shop so I could have him make the flanges and everything for it. This link explains how: http://jaysilver.net/pictures/cosmo/2/stripperpole.html |

Hey hey! I had a home made pole once (I didn't make it, my neighbour did and she gave it to me when she moved out) and I didn't have any issues with it. It was really basic and obviously didn't have spinning mode or anything, but as a beginner it served its purpose. That was a long time ago now though, but I don't remember having any issues with it. It was bolted in really tightly and the pipe wall was very thick (can't remember exact dimensions) polished stainless steel. It's one of the only poles I've ever had that hasn't bowed on me, but that may have been because I was just learning and didn't do many hardcore moves on it and I weigh 85kg (187lb). _________________ Choose life |

i live in canada, Nova scotia, and i looked on line for close to a year before i bought my x-pole...didn't think i would ever get one...everything was order online....do not go with anything found on kijiji or other personal seller sites, i found one for a lil minx here in HFX and i could tell from what it was shipped in it was a fake.....go to all the dance studios in your area and see if they sell the x-pole, most that do will use them in there own studio such as the one i got mine from...and you have a right to ask Q&A about the pole, and if they say anything that seems off like the poles are pushed together and not threaded, is the top dome plastic things like that, ask who there supplier is and and get the website for them, if they have one, then send a letter to x-pole asking if that supplier is recognized as an authorized supplier......where in canada are you?? you might be able to order an x-pole from the studio here in halifax if you still have had no luck with the ones in your aera or at all.....also the ones this studio sells are real, i have done hours on hours of online looking, and she stands by the xpole and the ones she sells, she uses them in her studio and all her students that can afford to buy have bought from her! i have mine since monday and it was worth the money paied!!
hope this helps a lil |
